Virtual Fencing Pasture Walk
The Lee County Cooperative Extension Office, Daniel Boone Soil & Water Conservation District, and USDA-NRCS will be sponsoring a Pasture Walk on Monday, October 19, 2026 at 4:30pm at Joe Gingerich's rented farm in the Balls Chapel area. Dinner will be provided at 6:00pm at Cumberland Market. The main topic of discussion is virtual fencing for cattle. The Daniel Boone Soil & Water Conservation District staff will also share information about the District's equipment rental program. Registration is required by Friday, October 16, 2026. Technical Committee Meeting
The Daniel Boone SWCD Technical Committee will be holding a meeting on October 27, 2026 at 4:30pm at the Daniel Boone SWCD office located at 32637 Main Street in Jonesville, Virginia. This meeting is open to the public.

The Daniel Boone Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Directors will be holding a meeting on October 27, 2026 at 6:00pm at the Daniel Boone SWCD office located at 32637 Main Street in Jonesville, Virginia. This meeting is open to the public.
Poster Contest
The Daniel Boone Soil and Water Conservation District is offering the 2026 NACD/VASWCD Poster Contest to all students and Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops in Lee County. The theme for this year’s poster contest is “Soil. Where It All Begins”.
There will be four types of contests: hand drawn, digital, additional assistance, and braille. The hand drawn, additional assistance, and braille contests are available for the following grade divisions:
Kindergarten-1st
2nd-3rd
4th-6th
7th-9th
10th-12th
The digital contest is available for the following grade divisions:
7th-9th
10th-12th
Posters must be 11x17 inches.
Entries must be received by the Daniel Boone Soil and Water Conservation District by Friday, October 9, 2026 for local judging. The local winners will then be submitted to the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts for state competition. State winners then compete at the national level for a chance to win monetary prizes.
