The Daniel Boone Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) was founded in 1952 and is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia whose boundaries are the same as those for Lee County. The District is governed by a five member Board of Directors that receives advice from Associate Directors.
All Lee County citizens can have a voice in resource and conservation planning by attending monthly District meetings, communicating their concerns, and participating in District programs. Daniel Boone SWCD is involved in a wide range of programs encouraging community participation in conserving and protecting soil, water, and other related natural resources.
The purpose of the Daniel Boone SWCD is to give local citizens the ability to work on conservation problems at a local level. We want to help provide the necessary technical expertise to assist the community in identifying, discussing, and solving local conservation issues. The community constituents are farmers, homeowners, watershed organizations, environmental groups, developers, teachers, youths, local businesses, agencies, civic organizations, elected officials and their staffs, and other residents interested in conservation.

Mission
To identify conservation issues within Lee County and to provide leadership, education, and implementation of programs that focus on land, water, and related natural resource topics.
Vision
The vision of the Daniel Boone SWCD is to improve the quality of life within the watershed by impeding erosion, water pollution, and other forms of land degradation through technical and educational assistance. These programs are supported by the Lee County Board of Supervisors, the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation-Division of Soil and Water Conservation, and technical support from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and other partners.
Meetings
Daniel Boone SWCD holds monthly board meetings at the USDA Service Center in Jonesville. They are the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm. The Technical Committee also meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:30pm. Other committee meetings are held at various times throughout the year. Dates of all meetings will be posted and are open to the public.
