Board of Directors Meeting

The Daniel Boone Soil & Water Conservation District Board of Directors will be holding a meeting on February 24, 2026 at 5:00pm at the Town of Pennington Gap Community Center located at 41670 W. Morgan Avenue in Pennington Gap, Virginia.  This meeting is open to the public.

Awards Banquet

The Daniel Boone SWCD will be having an awards banquet on February 24, 2026 at 6:00pm at the Town of Pennington Gap Community Center located at 41670 W. Morgan Avenue in Pennington Gap, Virginia.  Various conservation awards will be presented to local farmers and landowners that completed outstanding conservation projects last year.

Pasture Walk

The Daniel Boone SWCD, Virginia Cooperative Extension, and USDA-NRCS will be hosting a Bale Grazing Pasture Walk on Thursday, February 26, 2026.  The group will tour a bale grazing operation on the Charlie Carter farm at 4:00pm and then meet at the Cumberland Market at 5:30pm for dinner and discussion on bale grazing techniques.  Dr. John Fike, Forage Specialist at Virginia Tech is the featured speaker at the event.  Those interested in attending must register by Tuesday, February 24, 2026.  For further details, please click on the file below.

VASWCD Scholarship

The Virginia Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts Educational Foundation is offering scholarships to students majoring in or showing a strong desire to major in a course curriculum related to natural resource conservation and/or environmental studies.  The Daniel Boone Soil and Water Conservation District will be accepting applications from Lee County high school seniors and college freshmen for a college scholarship.  Individual applicants must be Virginia residents and full-time students enrolled in or who have applied to a college freshmen level curriculum.  Daniel Boone SWCD will judge local applications and select one applicant for the state competition.  Four $2,000 scholarships will be awarded statewide.  Applications are due to the Daniel Boone SWCD by Friday, March 20, 2026.  For more information, contact the district at (276) 346-1531 extension 3.

Youth Conservation Camp

The Virginia Association of Soil & Water Conservation Districts is sponsoring a week-long summer camp at Virginia Tech from July 12-18, 2026.  The Daniel Boone Soil and Water Conservation District will be accepting applications from Lee County students that are in grades 9-12 during the 2025-2026 academic school year.  Twelfth graders who graduate in May, June, July or August 2026 are also eligible to attend.  Daniel Boone SWCD will judge local applications and select two applicants to attend the camp.  Additional applicants will be put on a waiting list to attend the camp.  Camp tuition is $550.00.  The District may be able to assist with the cost to attend the camp.  Applications are due to the Daniel Boone SWCD by Friday, April 17, 2026.  For more information, contact the district at (276) 346-1531 extension 3.
